I saw on TV that a woman was able to have the trainer take the puppy for a week and then bring home a well behaved pupppy. He then trained the owner how to interact with the pup to maintain the behaviors. Dont have a lot of money but Imm desperate. Petsmart is not cutting it. Cant find anything thru online search engine. Live in Upstate NY...Thanks

Try the Ultimate Puppy Toolkit. It is a training system for puppies and will help you bond.
Sending your pup away to be trained is a bad idea, and classes are necessary in the long run for socialization.
You want to bond with your pup so you can assume the roll of alphadog… not dominate dog… big difference.
Check it out and order or get it at petsmart asap.
Hope this helps.
Try the following links, they might help. One is for a dog walker, but they might be able to help you too. All are in NYC. Good luck.
You should talk to your vet and see if there are any good, experienced trainers in your area. It doesn’t surprise me that Petsmart isn’t working for you, they often don’t have trainers that are experienced with dogs!
There is NO substitute for developing a strong bond with your puppy. My trainer (my pup and I are in classes) does take dogs in at his farm for a couple of weeks at a time, but never puppies. He only does this under extreme circumstances, when the dog has serious behavioural or aggression issues that need to be dealt with immediately.
Basic obedience training is best done by the owner, with the support of a professional as needed. An experienced trainer can help you to learn how to be consistent in your training methods, make sure that you and your puppy are moving at a good pace, and will help you to succeed. Training can be incredibly rewarding for BOTH of you, why would you want to give that up?
There are no bad pets, just bad owners.
At least that is what I hear.
Dog training isn’t magic nor is it fast. A well trained dog requires many hours of work ,consistency, and patience. You didn’t say how old your puppy is or what breed it is. A trainer who takes a young puppy for a week and magically cures all the puppy bad behaviors for life should bottle that up and sell it. She would be a very rich person. Some of the PetsMart trainers are okay and others aren’t so good. To be a PetsMart trainer doesn’t require someone all that bright IMHO. Many box store trainers don’t really know how to handle a dog that have behavioral problems because they are not taught those things. Get in touch with a good trainer in your area. Your vet might have some people in mind. PetsMart might have a person that they refer difficult dogs to or you might want to try the websites below for trainers in your area. Good luck and patience and consistancy are keys to a well trained dog.
