What effective puppy training behaviors can I start at 5 weeks?

I have a 38 day old rottweiler puppy. Just searching for suggestions on anything, from chewing to potty training. Thanks!

It’s illegal to release a pup to it’s new home before it’s at least 8 weeks old. What irresponsible backyard greeder sold you such a young dog?

A puppy learns a lot while they are still with their siblings. By having a 5 week old puppy you will have a dog that hasn’t learned several things that you can not teach. That is why most reliable breeders wont let their pups go until they are 8-14 weeks old. You can begin to teach many things at 5 weeks, but use positive reinforcement and no negative. Most dogs don’t have full bladder control until they are 6 months so don’t punish!!! When he does good, praise him! When he does bad, ignore him or give him a firm “no”. Never let him see you clean up his messes.

Puppy class is part work and part fun for the pups. During socialization, the puppies learn "bite inhibition" from each other, that is how to play bite so it doesn't hurt. (Biting hard leads to yelps and being ignored by the other dogs.) If they learn that from the other pups, then even years from now, say, if you accidentally hurt them, they won't bite with the full force of their jaws.
During the training part, the other dogs and owners serve as a source of distraction. If you've trained your dog at home, in a quiet environment, your dog may ignore you, or, for example, get up from a downstay because another dog did something. You want to train your dog to mind you even if there's a lot of interesting stuff going on all around it.
I start training for acceptable behavior from day one (no nipping, no chewing furniture, I'm the boss, not you, etc.) and house training from day one, but to be honest, I do wait for a few weeks before I start training for command behaviors. An 8-week-old puppy is not going to get "sit" no matter how much you work with them. Training sessions at that age are frustrating for the pup, frustrating for you, and ultimately accomplish very little, if anything at all. I usually wait at least a month before I do that kind of training, because by that time their attention span is a tiny bit longer, and their mind can grasp concepts easier.
I know many say to do training sessions from the first day home, but I've yet to see that accomplish anything. It's quite possible I'm wrong, but that's how I see it.
Unless you have some rich friends or family members to help you out, you will need a substantial amount of money before you can even think about asking for a small business loan or looking for other types of financing. You also need to choose a good location, and you will need to perform a lot of market research in order to convince potential funding sources that your location will be a viable one. The cost of rides is crazy, even if you just want to start out with very old, used rides that are in bad need of repair to make them ready for the general public. Simple rides like an old Tilt-A-Whirl or Scrambler can cost $50,0000 or more, and roller coasters cost a LOT more. I live in an economically depressed area, where a lot of events are served by amusement companies that offer rides that are only suitable for little kids…and then they charge so much per ride that a lot of parents can't justify the cost. Some of them only offer bounce houses, then expect to receive $3 per kid for only a couple minutes! I would really like to be involved in starting an amusement park or a decent and affordable midway provider, but I've done the research and it seems the only way to do so is with the help of a LOT of funding, starting with enough private funding for the banks to become interested. The banks will only be interested if they can recoup their possible losses by repossessing assets that were purchased through private funding. If you can convince a group of angel investors that you have a good idea and you are willing to give up most of the control over the company, that might be another option…but where does that leave you? Often, it means you doing all the dirty work so other people can profit from it. Been there, done that.

You will start to notice that they are not nursing as much at around 6 wks. The mother will also start nipping at them when they start to develop teeth. At 6wks you can start them on a puppy food that you add warm water to. Make sure it gets soggy and is not too hot for them. They will still nurse but it will slowly transition them to eating solid food. By 8wks they should be completely weaned. If you are still unsure just call a vet for free advise over the phone. Almost all puppies have worms so you will need to take them to the vet for a worming as well as to get their first shots. The shots are VERY important in preventing many illnesses and diseases. Also do not let the puppies outside until they get these shots. They could be exposed to something deadly. You should also keep them away from too many people. Anyone that is around them needs to be sure to wash their hands before and after any contact. All of this info can be verified by getting a free consultation by any vet over the phone. You can bring your puppy home now (as long as it is over 8-12 weeks of age). There is VERY LOW risk of anaphylaxis and death from any vaccination (in humans AND animals). You will want to bring the puppy home after it is weaned and follow up on the rest of his / her vaccine series with your vet who can tell you what to watch for. After each vaccine if you notice anything odd (vomiting, ithcy face, swelling, lethargy) let your vet know right away.
The main thing is to bring the puppy home after 8-12 weeks of age. Although there is a low risk of vaccine reaction, your dog will be at higher risk on contracting a deadly virus like parvo if not vaccinated. Discuss your concerns with your vet.
