When training a new born puppy should i use a crate?

I really don't like the idea of getting a crate, but every book I read about puppy training said your should get a crate, but when it said you did not have to get a crate then it would say prescription drugs online without prescription use the newspaper method instead........but I already decided that I was going to use that method whether I hade a crate or not!
Should I get a crate (all the critics say so) or should I not!?

Yes I think you should get a crate. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy maybe even just a travel crate for while the puppy is young. A crate will give the puppy a place to feel secure in when nobody is home and it will keep him out of trouble. Also puppies who are in a crate through the night and at times when nobody is home usually become potty trained faster because they have to sit right next to their business. The crate doesn’t have to be permenent but just use it until the dog is potty trained and has other basic training down. Good Luck with your new puppy!!

Yes, you should get a crate. A crate for a puppy or dog is more than just housebreaking. It is his house, and his safe place, a place he can go to “get away” from the hustle of the house, it is his den. Do not use a crate for punishment, you want him to feel safe in it. Also, a puppy will not potty where he sleeps, so a crate also helps with potty training. A puppy should stay in the crate when you are not playing with him or watching him. When he comes out of the crate, go outside and let him potty, then praise praise praise!! Back in the house, if you are going to play with him, he can stay out, then before you put him in the crate again, take him back out to potty.
Yes, utilize a crate. It’s very beneficial in training your puppy as well as a safe place for puppy when you can’t be right there to keep an eye out. Puppies get into things and need to be monitored constantly.
Your pup will come to see a crate as a safe place, tho may not care for it at first (tho reputable breeders often have pups crate trained before going to new homes). A crate is like a den and instincts tell puppy not to relieve in the den. This is why it’s so helpful in housebreaking.
We use a crate until the dog is fully potty trained and no longer chewing, up to 3 yrs old.
crate training is by far the easiest and the best way to house train. If you newspaper train then that makes the pupy think all paper is okay to use the bathroom on.

I new puppy needs a place of it’s own to feel comfortable and safe. If you have kids etc. it gives him a safe haven and if he is tired he knows he can go there, no one will bother him. Also unless you plan on staying awake all night to make sure he doesn’t swallow a sock or chew the leg off your bed this makes sure he is safe. Don’t put anything in his crate that he can chew and choke on and remove his collar. Also when you get up in the morning CARRY him outside right away and put him down where you want him to go to the bathroom. This teaches him where to go and to not pee in your house. Also if you travel, most places and people will accept a crated dog but not a loose one. Think of the crate as a crib not as a cage. It is to keep your puppy safe when you’re not watching him and if you’re driving it secures him if you get in an accident which will be less likely if he isn’t in your lap.

We have a dog and he was never crated. He is, now that he never used a crate, a big mooshy guy, and very snuggly. In ohter words, if you want your dog to be more affectionate with you, DON’T USE THAT CRATE!

the crate actually will become the dogs den – a safe place for it to go when it wants to be left alone – you NEVER use the crate for punishment.. its only a place you put them at night and when you cannot watch them yourself.. it solves alot of problems including destructive behavior….
you didnt say what breed of dog it is – but if is a small breed – getting it use to a crate is very handy especially if you have to transport it in a car (a dog in a crate is safer than a loose one) or it has to go to the groomer…
the newspaper method isnt as effective – the dogs dont fully understand why its sometimes ok to pee inside on paper – and other times its not….the news paper method is old and outdated…
YES! Actually, some dogs LIKE their crate! Dogs are den animals.. their crate becomes their den.. their own little safe place to go and hide to sleep.
Its also safer for your pup. When you cannot supervise him.. he is crated. You know then that he is not running around and chewing on things he shouldnt (such as electrical cords!)

yes you need to get a crate…because if you start training them young then you wont need to worry about them tearing stuff up and peeing and pooping in your house. the crate to them is their home…..if they wont pee where they sleep shortly they will consider your home as there territory just like their crate so no urinating in the house.
It’s completely your choice. I am not aware of anyone that has ever crate trained a puppy ( I live in Australia, so pups usually end up in the laundry!), but they do fine if limited at first to a smaller part of your home until their training starts having an effect. The most important thing is that you try to make it impossible for the puppy to go in the wrong spot. After you feed him, place him where you want him to go, every two hours or so, do the same. Before bed, then early in the morning do the same. If you keep him in a warm room that is not likely to be damaged by an accident or two, you probably won’t need to bother with a crate. It doesnt’ usually take long to train them using this method. Once the conditioning is in place, and he is old enough to have some self control, you’ll be all set.
Don’t forget to reward him calmly when he goes in the right spot. Don’t over-do the excitement, or you might distract him so much that he doesnt’ understand what he’s being praised for.

The main idea of crate training is for many reasons. I believe that you should. First of all it makes it somewhat easier for you to train your puppy for potty training. You should not get a crate too big or too small. It should only be big enough for the dog to fully stand up and turn around. This gives them a healthy space but a limited space so they don’t pee and poop where they know they are going to lay and sleep. If they whine (which they will), just stick with it and do not let them out. If you let them out while they are whining, they will know that whining will get them out. Plus, the dog will learn that this is his house, his domain, his security blanket. Normally, if they dog gets frightened or threatened, then they would go into the crate and not attack.

NO HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE IN A CRATE? All you have to do is take the puppy out every 2 hours every day and the puppy will learn you go outside. Trust me it works.
yes, a crate/kennel is perfect for training him to to not potty in the house, dogs dont poop where they sleep, after he gets used to going potty outside, then you can use the crate/kennel as a time out for when he does something he is not supposed to do

i say use the newspaper method cause i mean the pup is not always going to b ‘going’ in a crate it’ll go outside or in a box or on paper so i say dont get the crate if anything get the crate wen it is fully grown so u can get a good size that will fit it forever
